West coast trail
Tre etapper på tre dagar
It’s a diverse course, including everything from huge cliffs to narrow forest trails. The course follows the ocean and you will see old fisherman’s villages, heaths, canyons, and a huge amount of red-colored granite rocks. Three stages – three different Xperiences. Each course is marked with red/white markers/stripes. There are distance signs every second kilometer and 2-3 stations with water and energy drinks located during each stage. At almost every drink station you will find a toilet.
Hunnebo Haute 21K
This stage begins at the Ramsvik race village and ends in the picturesque village of Hunnebostrand. You will pass through Ramvsvik, cross the bridge to the mainland, and up to Ödby Island. From there you will head to the unique Stonemasonry Museum and then into the hilly terrain around Hunnebostrand. Enjoy a varied landscape where the hill peaks provide a magnificent view of the landscape and archipelago. You will pass lovely deciduous forests that are quite technical in some parts. The last kilometers are downhill and you will finish is in the beautiful stone sculpture park in Hunnebostrand. Hunnebo hidden woods is the most challenging stage, at some of the peaks you have to slow down to be safe. If it´s a rainy/wet day we recommend you to run this stage in studded shoes, Icebug Spirit OLX is our recommendation! The stage contains approximately 560 meters of vertical gain.
Woods and Island 30K
The second stage is the most diverse in this adventure and a stage that offers everything you can ask from a trail race. You run through enchanted deciduous forests and over rocks along the shore, as well as through stunning old stonemasonry and small fishing villages. This stage starts on Bohus-Malmön, a place with an interesting stonemasonry history, with reminders such as the old quarries and stone remnants. The coastal trail here takes us around the island and you will pass nice beaches with smooth granite slabs. After 11K at Bohus-Malmön, you arrive at the ferry station, where a ferry will take you back to the mainland while you enjoy some refreshments. During the ferry break, timekeeping will of course be stopped. The second part of the stage starts at Tullboden on the mainland. Here awaits a quite hilly track with a wide range of scenery. You will pass slippery rocks, verdant forests, and winding gravel roads. After approx. 14 additional K, you will reach the finish line in Kungshamn, where you enjoy a delicious lunch before you let the shuttle busses take you back to your accommodation. The stage contains approximately 557 meters of vertical gain.
Ramsvik Rocks 25K
The third stage of Icebug Xperience West Coast Trail starts in Smögen and passing the famous pier. At this stage, you will run beautiful single tracks passing mountains and forests before you reach, and will run over a bridge to Ramsvikslandet. Here you will run on the famous, slightly red-colored granite slabs for almost 8k, surrounded by the most stunning views Bohuslän has to offer. Everywhere you can see traces from the ancient ice sheet with giant kettles and ice slides. When you’ve passed the cliff sections on the island of Ramsvik the finish takes place in Ramsvik Race Village. Here awaits a wooden medal when passing the finish line, today’s lunch, and perhaps a refreshing swim in the ocean. The stage contains approximately 350 meters of vertical gain.
